David Z. Chen is a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff responsible for analyzing the performance characteristics of fiber optic components that support Verizon’s communications network. David has been with the company and its predecessors since 1995. He has led the development of transmission technology for the fMCI, performed test trials of Ultra Long Haul network and was instrumental in building the data and network control center in Dallas, TX. Passionate about innovation, David was awarded several patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Chen has earned a BS in precision optical instruments; two master’s degrees in physics, specializing in image processing and waveguide theory; and a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, specializing in quantum statistics, non-linear optics and chaos theory. David is a certified Lead Auditor by RAB-QSA, a member of both OSA and IEEE, and serves as a adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD).
